What kind of electric motorcycle dares to sell for hundreds of thousands EURO ?

2026-01-12

The Verge TS Pro electric motorcycle, recently unveiled at CES, is a bit unconventional.

It boasts a hubless motor producing over 100 horsepower, achieving 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 3.5 seconds. It also features the world's first mass-produced solid-state battery, capable of providing a range of 600 kilometers. Wow, its core hardware is truly a pinnacle of electric motorcycle technology.

This car comes from the Finnish brand Verge, which can be considered a veteran player with a new identity. Its predecessor was RMK, which was founded in 2018. It was officially renamed Verge in 2020, and launched the first-generation TS Pro in 2022.

The car showcased this time is the latest 2026 version, its selling points being the inwheel-drive motor and solid-state battery. Both of these components are supplied by the same company called Donut Lab.

Simply fitting an inwheel-drive motor and solid-state battery into a mass-produced vehicle means it won't be cheap. In the US, the base price starts at $29,900, while in Finland, it jumps to €42,200 including taxes—a true luxury car for the wealthy. In Finland, that's enough to buy a Volvo XC40.

Is it worth the price? Let's start by talking about this cool hubless motor.

Its patent is called a rim-integrated motor, which is basically a type of hub motor. Its shape resembles a donut, and it certainly looks eye-catching.

Moreover, there are very few companies in the world that make donut motors; only Donut Lab has a product line of donut motors ranging from 4.7 inches to 21 inches.

The working principle of a donut-shaped motor is quite simple, similar to rolling iron hoops as a child. The stator is fixed to the rear swingarm of a motorcycle, and the wheel itself is the rotor. Essentially, the motor is embedded inside the wheel rim, and the stator generates a rotating magnetic field, causing the rim to rotate with the tire.

Compared to traditional motorcycles, it eliminates components like chains, belts, and gears, cutting out middlemen and significantly improving transmission efficiency. However, there are pros and cons. Motorcycles inevitably experience bumps and scrapes, and with such a highly integrated rear wheel, repairs are bound to be expensive.

The 2026 TS Pro uses the Donut Motor 2.0, which is lighter and has better heat dissipation than the 1.0. It is said to be able to withstand 30 minutes of peak power output without any degradation.

electric Motorbike

Performance-wise, it's simply unparalleled. The Pro version boasts 136 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque, achieving 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds – truly unstoppable. The Ultra version pushes the horsepower to 204 and the torque to 1200 Nm, achieving 0-100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds.

This performance directly rivals the Ducati Diavel V4 RS, firmly establishing it as the pinnacle of factory cruiser performance. In a straight-line acceleration test on the Ultra version, with enough daring, 99% of the world's cars are no match for you.

Besides the hubless motor, another major selling point is the so-called world's first mass-produced solid-state battery, whose performance is equally amazing.

electric Motorbike

The TS Pro offers two solid-state battery options: a 20.2kWh battery that can travel 350km, and a 33.3kWh battery that can travel 600km for an additional 3000 euros or 5000 US dollars.

Converting the battery costs, it's not as outrageous as you might imagine, costing approximately 1800-2700 RMB per kilowatt-hour. Compared to the ternary lithium batteries commonly used in domestic electric motorcycles (1200-1500 RMB per kilowatt-hour), the premium isn't unreasonable. Truly capable overseas players will generally opt for the larger battery version.

While the range alone might not seem that exciting, the specifications released by Donut Lab are truly impressive.

electric Motorbike

For example, this battery has an energy density of 400Wh/kg. If it were used in current electric vehicles, then only 50% of the battery weight would be needed to achieve a similar range.

Moreover, its cycle life is claimed to reach 100,000 cycles, which is far beyond the point of one bike being passed down through three generations. Assuming no mandatory scrapping and that other parts of the bike don't break down, with one cycle per day, each generation can ride it from age 18 to 70, enough for five generations. No wonder this bike is so expensive; it's truly a great bike that benefits both the present and future generations.

Furthermore, it supports 200kW fast charging, providing 300 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes. In conclusion, this bike is the perfect choice for the construction team's electric motorcycle.

These impressive specifications, if only achievable in a lab, wouldn't be anything special. But if mass production were possible, they'd be incredibly advanced.

Currently, both automakers and battery manufacturers generally expect solid-state batteries to be commercially viable around 2030. Donut Lab, however, claims to be able to mass-produce them for vehicles right now. This is like someone from the future being reborn to work on solid-state batteries at Donut Lab—the speed is astounding.

More importantly, they claim this battery doesn't use rare earth elements or lithium, yet its cost is comparable to current lithium-ion batteries.

Furthermore, they state they've already built a 1 gigawatt-hour production line and plan to expand further. This ambition to grow and achieve even greater success is something even Ning Wang (a prominent Chinese tech figure) would have to avoid.

The problem is, all of this is just Donut Lab's own talk. From specifications to production capacity, there's no actual testing data from any third-party organization, and they haven't even revealed the specific technological path of the battery—it's all shrouded in mystery.

Now, let's delve deeper into the relationship between Verge and Donut Lab. These two companies aren't simply client and service provider relationships; the two bosses are actually brothers, which makes things even more intriguing.

electric Motorbike

In late 2024, Verge spun off its technology department into an independent subsidiary, Donut Lab, specializing in motor and battery R&D. After the spin-off, Donut Lab could both supply Verge and sell its technology externally.

The valuation of a battery and motor technology platform is inherently much higher than that of a motorcycle manufacturing company.

Sure enough, in July 2025, Donut Lab secured €25 million in seed funding. It's clear to anyone with a discerning eye that the spin-off was a strategic move combining technology and capital, with solid-state batteries being the most attractive selling point for investors.

It's truly difficult to say whether they possess genuine technology or are simply playing a capital game.

electric Motorbike

This isn't the first time Verge has used the concept-first approach.

Back in 2019, when it was still called RMK, it unveiled the E2 concept car, starting at €24,990 and collecting €2,000 deposits, immediately securing over 500 orders worldwide.

However, mass production didn't begin until July 2022. Because the company changed its name, the RMK E2 became the Verge TS, and a high-performance version, the TS Pro, was also launched.

This time, the 2026 TS Pro is again using solid-state batteries as a gimmick, inevitably raising questions about whether this is a genuine technological breakthrough or just a marketing ploy to secure funding.

electric Motorbike

This car has already garnered attention at CES thanks to its solid-state battery and hubless motor.

The hubless motor is relatively straightforward; it's visible, and if it can run, it's likely real. However, the solid-state battery is like a mystery. Let's wait and see if it can be delivered on time in Q1 2026. Once it's actually delivered, various third-party tests will follow, and then we'll have the answer.
